We went to see Eva, Barbara and Herbert (and his whole bear family) at their flat in leafy Schmargendorf.

There was a late birthday present waiting for us: a wooden breakfast tablet - these are beautiful, handmade items, with carefully chosen/cut pieces of wood and the motiv engraved on the right spot.

Usako, Herbert and Kousa enjoying the early evening sun coming through the leaves outside the window.

Then we went out for some food: sautéed chanterelle mushrooms on a bed of salad.

We had a couple of drinks afterwards. On the menu was a cocktail called "Aikiko" (sake, ginger, lemongrass) but we didn't try that - been very sensible about not mixing grapes & grains ;-)

Back home: the boys anxiously follow the Japan-Brazil match on TV.
