We then head towards the western part of the island, to see work by Richard Serra called Stages. Created in 1990, these 9 pairs of basalt columns "frame" certain landmarks.
The birds here are obviously very cultured - they seem to love these this work too, two or more birds often fighting for the spot on top of one of the columns...
BTW, you've probably noticed that the lights in each of the photos here look completely different from each other. That's not because I'm such a crap photographer, but because we've had a "typical Icelandic" weather, ie. sunny one minute, a quick shower the next, then sunny again, etc. etc., with the light changing constantly.
Just compare these shots of Mount Esja across the bay, with the clouds moving all the time. In the shot below right, you can actually see the area where it's raining!
